Kith for Scarface
今週の Monday Program™ は、私のお気に入りの映画のひとつであり、史上最も象徴的な作品のひとつである Scarface に捧げます。Brian De Palma が監督し、Oliver Stone が脚本を手がけたこの傑作は、1983年の公開以来、ポップカルチャーにおける象徴的な存在となっています。この映画を観たことがある人も、ない人も（ぜひ観てほしいですが）、きっとその名台詞を耳にしたことがあり、Scarface に影響を受けた音楽を聴いたり、何らかの形でその存在を感じたことがあるはずです。
Al Pacino が演じた Tony Montana は、何も持たずにマイアミにやって来たキューバ難民で、そこから自らの帝国を築き上げていくキャラクターです。彼の演技は、今なお最も迫力があり、心に残るパフォーマンスのひとつとして語り継がれています。公開当時、この映画はその暴力描写や言葉遣いの激しさから多くの批判を受け、誤解された側面もありました。しかし、見落とされがちだったのは、その奥にあるメッセージ――「野心を追うあまり、道徳を犠牲にしてしまうことへの警鐘」でした。偉大な芸術作品によくあるように、その真価が理解されるには時間がかかりました。だからこそ、今では Scarface は史上最高の映画のひとつとして広く認められています。
私は今回、この映画の貴重なオリジナル資料のスキャンアーカイブに触れる機会を得て、そのレガシーに敬意を表したコレクションを製作しました。自分に影響を与えてきたものから着想を得てプロダクトをつくること、それこそが Kith の本質です。このコレクションは、今週月曜日より Kith全店舗 および Kith.com にて発売いたします。

This week’s Monday Program™ is dedicated to not only one of my favorite movies, but one of the most iconic films of all time — Scarface. Directed by Brian De Palma and written by Oliver Stone, this masterpiece has been a pop culture reference point since its release in 1983. Whether you’ve seen the film or not (and I hope you have), you’ve certainly heard its quotes, listened to music inspired by it, or felt its influence in some form.
Al Pacino’s portrayal of Tony Montana, a Cuban refugee who arrives in Miami with nothing and builds an empire, remains one of the most gripping and unforgettable performances of all time. When the film first debuted, it was misunderstood by many, criticized for its violence and language. But what some failed to see was its deeper message: a cautionary tale about sacrificing morality in the pursuit of ambition. As with most great art, it took time for audiences to fully grasp its impact, which is why today Scarface is widely regarded as one of the greatest motion pictures ever made.
I had the opportunity to explore the film’s incredible archive of original scans and build a collection that pays tribute to its legacy. Creating product inspired by the things that have shaped me is what Kith has always been about. Releasing this Monday at all Kith shops and Kith.com.
