Kith for Jaws

Steven Spielberg がわずか 27歳で監督した Jaws は、映画史を塗り替えた傑作となりました。1975年6月に公開され、この作品は「史上初のサマーブロックバスター」と呼ばれるようになります。当時、夏の映画興行は映画にとって閑散期と見なされていましたが、Jaws 公開以降、各スタジオは公開戦略を大きく転換していきました。この映画がどれほど大きなインパクトを与えたかを示す一例として、観客はあまりの恐怖に駆られ、全米で ビーチの利用者数が劇的に減少したほどです。

おそらく本作で最も有名な要素は、John Williams による象徴的な音楽でしょう。わずか二つの音しか使っていませんが、その恐怖感と迫力は圧倒的で、アカデミー賞を受賞しました。

あれから50年経った今も、私にとって Jaws は毎年欠かさず観る作品です。そして、この Monday に皆さんと共有できることをとても楽しみにしています。

At only 27 years old, Spielberg directed a masterpiece that changed cinema forever. Released in June 1975, it became known as the first summer blockbuster. At the time, summer months were seen as a dead time for movies. But after Jaws, studios began changing their release strategy. To understand how impactful the movie was, people were so scared of the movie that it caused a dramatic drop in beach attendance across America.

Perhaps the most famous element of the film is John Williams’ iconic score. It uses only two notes. But was so terrifying and incredible that it won the Academy Award.

50 years later, it’s still a yearly watch for me. Excited to share it this Monday with you all.
